The Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM) is a membership organization of academic general internists (stated membership >3,300). SGIM supports clinicians, educators, and researchers in general internal medicine by providing continuing education (including a learning portal with CME/MOC credit), career development programs, mentoring, grants and awards, and fellowship/residency directories.
The society produces and curates publications (including the Journal of General Internal Medicine, SGIM Forum, and SGIM News), convenes meetings and events (annual and regional meetings, Academic Hospitalist Academy, and specialty programs), and runs an online member community (GIM Connect) with interest groups and networking. SGIM also organizes advocacy and policy work (legislative action center, policy papers, position statements) focused on health policy, access to care, training and research priorities for general internal medicine.
SGIM maintains member services (career center, volunteer roles, member directory) and provides resources and tools for education, research, and clinical practice. The organization is based in Alexandria, VA.
